Founded in 2024 by professional photographer Raed Bawayah, Kamira aims to bring together photographers from all backgrounds who wish to promote a vision of photographic art based on excellence, sharing, social engagement, openness, and diversity.

Behind the idea

Born in Ramallah, Palestine, and trained at the Musrara School of Photography in Jerusalem, Raed Bawayah lives and works in Paris. He has exhibited in prestigious venues such as the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, the Odéon Theater, the Cité Internationale des Arts, the Hôtel de Ville de Paris, the Kunstmuseum in Stuttgart, and the Multimedia Museum in Moscow. He has also participated in major events such as the Visa pour l’Image festival in Perpignan and the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles.

In addition to his artistic career, he is the founder of several photography events, including the La Quatrième Image photography festival in Paris (2012–2018) and the Vienna International Photo Award (2011–2015). His work has earned him numerous distinctions, including the Fondation des Treilles award, a finalist position for the Académie des Beaux-Arts photography prize in Paris, and the documentary photography award from the Centre National des Arts Plastiquesfor his series "Obscurité de la lumière" in Mauritania.

Excellence: Founded by an internationally recognized and award-winning photographer, Kamira Institute upholds a demanding and ambitious vision of photographic art. It promotes outstanding photography and offers high-level training, enabling both professional and amateur photographers to refine their knowledge and artistic practices.

Sharing: Kamira Institute is a community of photographers committed to supporting one another, learning from each other, and drawing inspiration from one another to elevate the art of photography and the profession itself.

Social Commitment: At Kamira Institute, photography is not merely an end in itself; it must also serve as a vehicle for social progress and contribute to the greater good. Photographs that shed light on overlooked or underprivileged communities, as well as those offering critical or unique perspectives on our world, encourage reflection, nourish the soul, and celebrate humanity.

Openness: Kamira Institute champions an art form that opens eyes to the world and its people, transcending all boundaries—geographical, artistic, economic, social, or technological. Through Kamira, photography enhances vision and broadens horizons for those who capture images, those who view them, and those who are their subjects.

Diversity: Kamira Institute is committed to ensuring that all forms of photography and photographers of all levels are represented in its initiatives and activities.
